CINTECX Calendar: November with Aida Díez

“The perspective of women in research is essential not only for scientific progress, but also for social progress.”

I work in hydrogen production and in the degradation and adsorption of pollutants. I research the electrochemical splitting of water to produce hydrogen and use advanced oxidation processes to eliminate pharmaceuticals and pesticides. I also synthesize porous materials to trap contaminants.

Research provides me with constant motivation as I face challenges and develop innovative solutions in engineering, with practical and beneficial applications. I’m quite a restless person, and I believe that has been a very positive driving force in my scientific career.

My curiosity has allowed me to combine several projects and research lines, building a competitive CV.

I try to find alternatives to improve the environment and contribute to society through adsorption and advanced oxidation processes to eliminate pollutants, and the generation of H₂ as a renewable energy source.

To young women I would say: “If you like science and get bored with monotony, research is the answer.” It’s a versatile field with diverse tasks, from lab experimentation to writing articles and attending conferences.
