Jornada de Ciencia Abierta CINTECX

A fundamental activity for CINTECX is to disseminate knowledge. The Centre runs an annual activities programme for scientific dissemination to encourage and incentivize the coming together of science, technology and innovation, and the general public, improving scientific-technological education and culture.

CINTECX Opens Its Doors in Vigo: Research Connecting with the City

On 6 November, Vigo’s Tinglado del Puerto will host a day packed with workshops, shows and games, offering visitors the chance to discover the scientific and technological research being carried out at the University of Vigo.

CINTECX is stepping out of its laboratories and into the heart of the city to engage directly with the public. The Research Centre for Technologies, Energy and Industrial Processes (CINTECX) will celebrate a new edition of its Open Day with an important new feature: bringing its activities beyond the university campus and opening them to audiences of all ages.

Throughout the day, around twenty researchers will share their work through demonstrations, workshops and hands-on experiences. Visitors will have the opportunity to discover how engineering and technology help solve everyday problems and tackle some of society’s greatest challenges.

Cameras capable of capturing images invisible to the naked eye, surprising fire experiments, bioprinting using marine resources, and innovative processes for removing pollutants from water are just some of the activities on offer during a day in which curiosity and experimentation will take centre stage.

Programme of Activities

Morning Session: A Scientific Treasure Hunt

Nearly 300 secondary and upper-secondary school students from Vigo, Redondela and Santiago de Compostela will transform the Tinglado del Puerto into a hub of scientific exploration.

Working in groups of 10 to 15 participants, they will visit the outreach stands following a treasure-hunt route. Over the course of approximately two hours, they will complete challenges and experiment with some of the technologies and processes being researched at CINTECX, ranging from energy and environmental solutions to advanced manufacturing, 3D scanning and mixed reality.

Afternoon Session: Science for All Ages

From 5:00 p.m. onwards, the Tinglado will open its doors to the general public, offering a range of activities designed to inspire discovery, experimentation and wonder alongside CINTECX researchers.

The central agora of the venue will host a science show specially designed for children, featuring experiments, humour and surprises to demonstrate why research matters.

Visitors will also be able to enjoy games, workshops and other hands-on activities that encourage children to ask questions, experiment and explore the world around them.

Bringing CINTECX Research Closer to Society

CINTECX brings together nearly 200 researchers working in fields such as renewable energy, energy efficiency, natural resource utilisation, industrial waste valorisation, advanced manufacturing, new materials, clean propulsion technologies and artificial intelligence.

Since 2019, the centre has organised Open Day events to showcase its research activities and inspire interest in science and technology. In this seventh edition, the initiative takes a step further by moving into the centre of Vigo and, for the first time, opening its programme to the wider public.

It is an opportunity to meet the people behind the research, discover how they work and see that science is much closer to our everyday lives than we often imagine.

Come and Discover the Science of CINTECX!

An afternoon to experiment, be inspired and enjoy science with the whole family.
