Félix Quintero Martínez, a tenured professor in the Department of Applied Physics and researcher in the LaserON group, has just been appointed by the rector of UVigo, Manuel Reigosa, as Vice-Rector of Planning and Sustainability. Quintero, who succeeds Professor José Cidrás Pidre, has complemented his teaching and research work over the past four and a half years with the deputy directorship of Cintecx, the Research Center for Technologies, Energy, and Industrial Processes at the University of Vigo, a position he will not continue in as he joins the leadership of the Vice-Rectorate of Planning and Sustainability.
Born in Santiago de Compostela in 1974, Quintero is an industrial engineer from UVigo, where he also earned his doctorate with a thesis on laser cutting of advanced ceramics. The Materials Science and Engineering Department at Rutgers University, USA; the Materials Department at Imperial College London; and the 3Bs Research Group (University of Minho, Portugal) are some of the departments where he has developed his research career, in which he stands out for being co-inventor of the patented Laser Spinning technique for the production of glass nanofibers, as well as the only known method for the uninterrupted production of continuous glass nanofibers from a melt, Cofiblas, which has a triadic patent granted by the European Patent Office (EPO), the Japanese Patent Office (JPO), and the US Patent Office (USPTO) (2024), in addition to the Spanish patent.
Quintero is co-author of more than 70 research articles indexed in the JCR and co-inventor of 15 Spanish patents and six international patents.
