The BISUV group at the Center for Research in Technologies, Energy and Industrial Processes (CINTECX) has recently welcomed researcher Maria Silva, who carried out a research stay within the framework of a complementary training protocol of the Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (FCT).
The stay focused on the study of photocatalysis and advanced oxidation processes, two technologies aimed at addressing environmental problems related to water and air pollution. Photocatalysis uses materials capable of activating chemical reactions through light, allowing contaminants to be transformed into less harmful compounds. Advanced oxidation processes, in turn, generate highly reactive chemical species that can degrade persistent organic substances, contributing to environmental quality improvement and the development of more sustainable treatment systems.
The work carried out by Maria Silva at CINTECX has enabled further progress in these lines of research and strengthened scientific collaboration between institutions.
Last Friday, her farewell was held in Vigo. On the occasion of her return to the Center for Research at the University of Coimbra, CERES UC, the BISUV group expressed its gratitude for her contributions and extended best wishes for success in her upcoming academic and professional challenges.
