The Research Center for Technologies, Energy and Industrial Processes (CINTECX) at the University of Vigo welcomed this morning a group of twenty young participants from the Campus Camp summer program. This initiative aims to bring science and technology closer to younger generations, sparking scientific vocations through hands-on and outreach experiences—even during the summer.
The day began with a welcome presentation by CINTECX’s Deputy Director, Alejandro Gómez Yepes, who greeted the participants and highlighted the importance of research and the transfer of knowledge to society.
Throughout the morning, the Campus Camp students had the opportunity to explore the center’s facilities and gain first-hand insight into the work carried out by its researchers. The visit included a guided tour of the laboratories and workspaces, as well as participation in workshops designed to foster interest in scientific research.
Science also in summer
CINTECX also takes advantage of the summer period to continue promoting science outreach and scientific vocations through workshops aimed at young people taking part in the Campus Camp activities at UVigo. One of the highlights of the day was the Biotechnology – Alginate workshop, led by researcher Aida Díez Sarabia from CINTECX’s BIOSUV group, and researcher Antón Puga Pazo. In this activity, participants experimented with water treatment using adsorbents made from waste materials, while also being introduced to key biotechnology concepts such as the use of enzymes and microorganisms.
Next, the students delved into the fundamentals of combustion processes with researchers David García Rodiño and Marta González González from CINTECX’s GTE group. In this workshop, they carried out visually striking experiments with flames of different colors, helping them understand basic principles of chemistry and energy in an engaging and practical way.
They also had the opportunity to visit the “Women Researchers at CINTECX” exhibition, where they learned about the profiles, career paths, and motivations of the center’s female researchers. This exhibition highlights the role of women in science and serves as a source of inspiration for future generations.
The day concluded with a visit to the Additive Manufacturing Laboratory, guided by technician Víctor Tierra. There, participants explored the various 3D printing technologies used at the center, including the RAISE 3D printer (filament-based), the NEXA 3D printer (resin-based), and the clay printer, among others. They also learned about the materials used and the innovative projects being developed in this field.
Throughout the visit, participants showed great interest in the different experiments and asked numerous questions to the research staff, demonstrating a curious and enthusiastic attitude that was highly appreciated by the CINTECX team.
These activities were made possible thanks to the collaboration of CINTECX’s research staff, who are strongly committed to science and technology outreach, and also thanks to funding received through the Aid for the structure, improvement and support of Research Centers of the Galician University System (CIGUS), co-financed with European funds under the Feder Galicia 2021–2027 Operational Program.
