This May, we meet Mónica Fernández, a researcher at CINTECX who participated in the CINTECX 2025 Calendar initiative, sharing her experience as a researcher and motivating young women.
“I research material processing using laser technology, at macro, micro, and nano scales.”
Research allows me to satisfy my curiosity and desire to learn, making each day enriching and different.
One of the characteristics that I think is essential for developing a scientific career is tenacity, as it is important to maintain focus to face difficulties and find ways to overcome obstacles to achieve the set goals.
My studies on antimicrobial nanoparticles and bioactive glass nanofiber dressings represent a key advancement in public health. On the other hand, the use of marine waste for the production of improved sunscreens and the recycling of glass using laser technology reflect a commitment to sustainability and the circular economy, reducing waste and generating high-value-added products.
I would encourage young women to pursue a path in research if they have an interest in science and technology, in learning and creating solutions, as it is a field full of opportunities to innovate and transform the world.
