CINTECX Calendar: March with Xanel Vecino

This March, coinciding with the celebration of International Women’s Day, we introduce Xanel Vecino, a CINTECX researcher who has participated in the CINTECX Calendar 2025 initiative, sharing her experience as a researcher and motivating young women.

XANEL VECINO: “The ability to contribute to knowledge depends on vocation, effort and passion”.

I work on the circular economy, sustainability and industrial symbiosis. My research focuses on transforming waste and secondary raw materials into high added value products, such as biodisinfectants and eco-adsorbents.

Engineering research is one of my greatest passions because it allows science to be applied to solve specific business problems. I propose innovative and effective solutions using membrane technology, improving productivity and industrial sustainability, from the laboratory to the industrial scale.

My research career is distinguished by the transfer of knowledge and technology to society. I have filed five patents, four of them on biodisinfectants made from corn waste, which are being adopted by the industry to manufacture more sustainable products.

My research seeks to improve people’s quality of life by offering effective products with a lower environmental impact. The demand for biodegradable and biocompatible products is increasing, and my work responds to this need.

I would encourage young women to follow their passion for science, technology and engineering. Doing what you love is key to happiness and professional success.
