The Nikon SMZ25 stereomicroscope features a wide and flexible zoom range (0.63x to 15.75x), representing a 25:1 magnification ratio. Because it is motorized, it allows for fine adjustments without manually manipulating the optics. It also enables three-dimensional (3D) reconstruction of the sample through focus stacking (z-stacking). It generates panoramic images (stitching) of large areas.

Applications
- Materials research: Surface inspection, crack and corrosion defects. Study of metal structures and alloys; structural analysis.
- Electronics / Optoelectronics: Inspection of electronic components: solder joints, connections, and microscopic manufacturing defects.
- Medicine / Biochemistry / Biomaterials: Examination of implants, prostheses, and biocompatible materials. Inspection of biological samples without the need for very thin sections, such as thick tissues, algae, insects, etc.
