Novos Materiais was established in 1995 with the aim of conducting research on the development and application of new functional materials, combining bioengineering, nanotechnology, and photonics.

The group currently has 11 members, has supervised 18 doctoral theses, and exceeds 180 scientific publications, having been recognized as a Competitive Reference Group by the Xunta de Galicia.

Its activity ranges from the synthesis and modification of advanced materials to their application in sensors, biomedical devices, heritage conservation, and protection against corrosion and wear.

FA3 participates in excellence networks and collaborates with scientific and technological institutions to promote innovative solutions aimed at social well being and sustainable development.
