This distinction recognizes the excellence of young professionals who stand out for their innovative contributions to engineering, the pioneering use of new methods and materials, and their commitment to sustainability and the promotion of the profession.<\/p>\n<p>Specializing in the study of\u00a0tensile strength and deformability of rocks, P\u00e9rez Rey has developed an outstanding research career in the field of geotechnical engineering. In 2024, he was already recognized alongside Professor\u00a0Leandro Alejano\u00a0with the\u00a0Giovanni Barla International Award\u00a0for the best scientific article of 2023, for a study on unique geological structures, including the emblematic\u00a0Pena do Equilibrio\u00a0in\u00a0Ponteareas.<\/p>\n<p>P\u00e9rez Rey also leads the\u00a0TRACONROC\u00a0project, one of the three winning projects in the latest\u00a0CINTECX CHALLENGE\u00a0call. The project focuses on analyzing the mechanical behavior of rocks under confined tension, in collaboration with\u00a0Leandro Alejano Monge\u00a0and\u00a0Xian Est\u00e9vez Ventosa, also from the GESSMin group.<\/p>\n<p>The leader of\u00a0TRACONROC\u00a0has also been one of the driving forces behind the recently launched initiative\u00a0&#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/coleccion.menas.webs.uvigo.es\/\">Metallic Ores Under the Microscop<\/a>e&#8221;, a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/coleccion.menas.webs.uvigo.es\/\"><em>virtual museum<\/em><\/a>\u00a0that makes the 200 most abundant mineral species in the Earth\u2019s crust accessible to the public. This initiative involved several CINTECX researchers from the\u00a0Xeoda\u00a0teaching innovation group at the University of Vigo.
