The next generation of researchers is taking center stage at the University of Vigo. One hundred doctoral students, recently graduated PhD researchers, and professionals from the industrial sector are gathering this Tuesday and Wednesday for the first edition of the Doctoral Conference in Energy, Technology and Industrial Processes (DCETIP 2026), a conference promoted by Cintecx – Research Centre for Technologies, Energy and Industrial Processes, which has been launched with an international outlook and the aim of fostering emerging scientific talent.

DCETIP was created to provide a dedicated platform for early-career researchers interested in presenting results obtained in areas related to energy, technology, and industrial processes. During the two-day event, participants will present their work and share experiences in an environment designed to facilitate dialogue between emerging researchers and experienced scientists with extensive international backgrounds, thereby encouraging the creation of collaborative networks, future joint initiatives, and the transfer of knowledge to productive sectors.

Two days to share experiences and build connections

The assembly hall of the School of Industrial Engineering hosted the opening ceremony of the conference. As Ángeles Sanromán, Director of Cintecx, pointed out, the event “was created with a clear purpose: to support emerging research and promote the dissemination of knowledge in the fields of energy, advanced technologies, and industrial processes. Over these two days, we will have numerous opportunities for debate and the exchange of ideas. We hope you will take advantage of these moments to establish new connections, foster future collaborations, and enjoy this scientific experience.”

The Director also wished to give special recognition to the invited keynote speakers from universities and research centers in Portugal, Italy, Sweden, Poland, Brazil, and the United States. “Thank you for traveling to Vigo and for sharing your research, ideas, and experience with us,” she said.

For his part, Rafael Comesaña, Vice-Rector for Knowledge Transfer, Innovation and Social Impact, highlighted Cintecx’s vision of “organizing a conference for young researchers and creating opportunities for this new talent to get to know one another better, strengthen collaborations, and build their future.”

Meanwhile, Jaime Aneiros, City Councillor, emphasized the importance of an event such as DCETIP26 for Vigo, “a city strongly committed to promoting research,” and stressed “the professional and personal connections that will be created during these days of interaction, including connections with the city itself.”

The opening ceremony also included the participation of José Fariña, Director of the School of Industrial Engineering, and Elena Alonso, Director of the School of Mining Engineering.

Scientific programme with international reach

Over the two-day event, the scientific programme is structured around six thematic areas ranging from innovative energy solutions to advanced technologies applied to industrial processes, combining experimental and computational research with a clear focus on practical applications.

The conference also features distinguished international speakers, including Sergi García-Segura from Arizona State University; Ana Leite Oliveira, researcher at the CBQF – Centre for Biotechnology and Fine Chemistry of the Portuguese Catholic University; Carmelo D’Agostino from Lund University; Gherhardt Ribatski from the University of São Paulo; Dominique Scalarone from the University of Turin; and Vítor Monteiro from the ALGORITMI Research Centre at the University of Minho.

With the launch of this first edition, Cintecx, a collaborative centre within the CIGUS Network, reinforces its commitment to attracting top-level scientific talent and establishing an international benchmark forum for emerging research by promoting training, scientific cooperation, and stronger links between academia and industry.

DCETIP26 has received the support and sponsorship of the University of Vigo, Vigo Tecnolóxico, the Social Council of the University of Vigo, the International Doctoral School (EIDO), the BorgWarner Chair, the Official Association of Industrial Engineers of Galicia, the Provincial Council of Pontevedra, and Amavilab.
